Shipping & Maritime Affairs
The Maritime Affairs function is responsible for shipping and maritime policy, legislation, supervision and coordination within Sint Maarten.
Mission
To create and promote a safe, efficient and reliable sea traffic system for St. Maarten and its citizens.
Vision
To establish a national Maritime Administration for St. Maarten to fulfill the responsibilities as a Flag State, Port State and Coastal State, as applicable, in an effective and efficient manner.
Core Maritime Responsibilities
Policy & Legislation
Shipping and maritime policy, laws and legislation, including supervision of their implementation.
Shipping Register
Responsibility for managing the Shipping Register of Sint Maarten.
Compliance & Supervision
Supervision of compliance with applicable laws, legislation and international treaties, including technical and operational activities.
Maritime Coordination
Coordination of shipping and maritime policy with ministries, Kingdom partners, authorities, governing bodies and private agencies.
Harbour Affairs
Advising on matters concerning harbours and related transport and telecommunication services.
Regional & International Affairs
Management and coordination of maritime affairs within the Kingdom and at regional and international levels.
Safe and Reliable Sea Traffic
Maritime Affairs supports the development and supervision of the maritime framework of Sint Maarten, with responsibilities covering shipping policy, legislation, compliance and maritime administration.
