Department of Civil Aviation, Shipping & Maritime Affairs

The Department of Civil Aviation, Shipping & Maritime Affairs is responsible for the development, implementation and supervision of aviation and maritime legislation, international compliance and public services within Sint Maarten.

AVIATION

Civil Aviation Department

Mission

To create and promote a safe, efficient and reliable air traffic system for St. Maarten and its citizens.

Vision

To ensure the highest levels of Safety, Security and Effectiveness for St. Maarten Aviation industry.

Core Tasks

Advise on airport matters and transport & telecommunication services.
Develop and supervise aviation laws, legislation and policy implementation.
Coordinate Aviation Policy with other ministries and Kingdom partners.
Manage political and economic aviation affairs nationally, regionally and internationally.
Maintain the Aviation Register of Sint Maarten.
Supervise compliance with aviation laws, legislation and international treaties.

MARITIME

Shipping & Maritime Affairs

Mission

To create and promote a safe, efficient and reliable sea traffic system for St. Maarten and its citizens.

Vision

To establish a National Maritime Administration for St. Maarten to fulfill the responsibilities as a Flag State, Port State and Coastal State in an effective and efficient manner.

Core Tasks

Advise on matters concerning harbors, transport and telecommunication services.
Develop Shipping and Maritime policy, laws and legislation.
Supervise implementation of Maritime regulations and legislation.
Coordinate Maritime Policy with ministries, Kingdom partners and private agencies.
Manage political, economic and maritime affairs nationally and internationally.
Maintain the Shipping Register of Sint Maarten.
Ensure compliance with Maritime laws, international conventions and operational activities.
